Its people have always revered reservoirs, sacrificed to them, and worshiped the gods. Today, reservoirs are considered attractions, and thousands of tourists annually come to these regions to see the life-giving waters of Africa and their inhabitants.
Dumyat is one of the few Egyptian cities surrounded by water. It is located between the Nile Delta in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. Since the time of Ancient Egypt, this city has flourished as a trading port due to its location. Today, it still owns one of the largest fleets in the Mediterranean. Here, you can find more than half of the country’s fishing boats, and its economy is formed by the fishing industry. The local waters are filled with a variety of fish, which attracts not only people but also many species of birds that live in these places.
During the winter, large flocks of flamingos, pelicans, spoonbills, herons, and white storks gather at the famous Lake Manzala. More than 130 bird species choose these shores as a staging post and winter nesting spot during long flights. Lake Manzala is the most beautiful and the largest lake in Egypt. Its area is about 1500 square kilometers. And it is considered one of the best places to look at these beautiful creatures. You only need to hire an experienced boatman or rent a boat and go on a fascinating tour into the reeds. Even those who are indifferent to birds cannot keep their eyes off them and leave the lake before sunset.
