You stay in the middle. From one side, there are warm, crystal-clear waves of the Caribbean, from the other – hot white sand. And far away, you can see dense thickets of green palms. Some tourists rest in a shadow. The Gulf of Boca Prins has also toothed cliffs protecting against wind. You lose sight either because of the hot sun, either of incredible beauty. You seem to sleep sweetly.
Come to the caves and beyond them. And you see that the white sand, sun and warm sea of Boca Prins is just the tip of the iceberg. There is something more interesting. The main attraction of the bay is located underground. Archaeologists have discovered a beautiful and mysterious Fontein cave.
Aruba has many beautiful caves, but this one is the best. You enter into the mouth of a predator. Take a jacket, it is much colder in a long corridor than outside. You pass huge centuries-old stones, giant grottoes with golden stalactites and big stagnate columns.
And now, turn your attention to the walls, not to the interior of the cave. Yes, it is not a dream. There, you can see drawings. These inscriptions were made by the ancient inhabitants of the Aruba Island, not by vandals. Owing to the petroglyphs, Fontein Cave is the most ancient sight of the island.
Many thousands of years ago, the Indians walk on the same stones, that you touch today. Scientists consider that the part of the rock with the cave was functioning as a religious center of the ancient people. Inhabitants of the entire island flocked here to worship gods.
The mystery of drawings depicting scenes of hunting or ceremonies still has not been solved. Some think that it is a tourist trap. But the administration of the park, where the cave is located, claims that they are genuine.
After a refreshing tour in the cave, you can return to the beach to the bay or take a walk along the Arikok National Park. It is the largest park on the island. It occupies 34 square kilometers, almost the entire central part of the island and 18% of Aruba.
Here, you can climb in the mountains, or go underground. The landscape of the park is so various that you cannot get bored. Fontein Cave is the highlight of the park, but it is not the only one. Park has several of them. Arikok is a natural park and a cultural and historical site. People preserve and enlarge the local flora and fauna, show ancient drawings of the Indians and farmland.
