Despite the global promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the increasing smoking cessation and alcohol abstinence, it is difficult to imagine Russian people who would never have heard of "Smirnoff" vodka, even if they had never tasted it. The genius of Russian entrepreneurship, the peasant who became a millionaire, the creator of the famous drink, Petr (Pyotr) Smirnov, is a character of many legends known far beyond his hometown of Myshkin. The descendants of this legendary "vodka king" founded the house-museum named after him. Still maintained by the family, it has become one of the most visited tourist attractions of the town.
Today, you can come to a small rural house in Myshkin to learn a great success story, see old family photos of the ancient Smirnov family, bottles and labels of the 19th-20th centuries, get acquainted with the Russian traditions of drinking and the preferences of Myshkin residents at different times: from the era of the Russian Empire to the present day. The exposition of the products of Petr's great-great-grandson, Boris Smirnov, has a special place in the museum. It is dedicated to the famous "Arsenich" vodka, the winner of the 2006 exhibition in England. This drink won a gold medal and was recognized as the world's best vodka in its class. Moreover, there is an opportunity to enjoy "Arsenich", as well as "Gorodovoy" and "Smirnoff Gold" during the degustation that accompanies each tour of the museum.
A distinctive feature of the Petr Smirnov Museum is several bright activities created by its management: from enjoying the legendary local liqueur "Kosorylovka" with cucumbers to the traditional herbal tea party from a coal samovar with pancakes around an old Russian stove. And if visitors want to celebrate a birthday or even a wedding inside this unique museum, the hospitable and friendly staff will help to organize everything and make a big day truly unforgettable.
