Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve (May Valley) is located on the island of Praslin, near the luxury Grand Anse Beach. Surprisingly, even though the islands are actively developing tourism and new territories, this place has remained completely untouched. Wild nature, unique plants and animals, and most importantly - several waterfalls, each of which is beautiful and remarkable in its way.
For the most part, Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve is home to endemic palm trees that have the largest seeds in the world! The height of some trees reaches 40 meters, and the leaves grow up to 6 meters wide and 15 meters long. These are the real giants who welcome guests to Vallée de Mai.
Here, you can see how the flora of our planet has evolved over millions of years. After all, there are preserved plants that date back to the time of the dinosaurs! This is a kind of museum or living laboratory that shows what our planet looked like humans appeared on it.
There are also unusual animals in the park. As a rule, these are arthropods – for example, large snails, which are difficult to miss on the ground or the plants' leaves, several species of reptiles, chameleons, and bronze geckos. As for birds, there are black parrots, nightingales, and blue pigeons.
However, most tourists come to this park for the waterfalls. There are several of them, the most famous one is Praslin waterfall. It is not easy to get to it, because the route runs through tropical thickets. Besides, you can't swim there, because the water from the cliff falls not into the pool, but on huge sloping stones. But it is this unusual and pristine beauty that attracts hundreds of guests. The view of the waterfall from the forest thicket is amazing!
