In the 1930s, a dam was built in the Olifants River gorge, and then a miracle happened.

A 27-meter wall enclosed a piece of land (23,612 hectares), which gradually began to be populated by animals. As a result, the artificial depression turned into a huge reserve. Forty years later, the dam was rebuilt, but this did not affect the already formed ecosystem in any way.

The dam in the reserve is currently the longest in the southern hemisphere. It reaches 30 kilometers in length. Although the size is impressive, the dam is not the only thing to see here. It is impossible to take your eyes off the incredible African nature. It becomes especially magical when the sun sets over the valley, everything is colored in golden-orange tones, and details and clear forms merge, leaving only silhouettes.

Nature lovers will love it here. The main advantage of the valley is the complete absence of mosquitoes. But the animals are present almost in full. There are about 70 species of mammals in the reserve. Here it is easy to meet a white rhinoceros, a leopard, and a huge number of fish in the river. Well, the banks are full of fishermen.

It seems that civilization with all the technological progress and gadgets is somewhere far away from here. There is nothing but the beauty of nature and the singing of birds.
