The Pretoria National Botanical Garden, founded in 1946, hosts the headquarters of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). At the same time, it is an urban green area open to visitors, which successfully combines scientific research and recreational environment.

The garden is located 9 km east of the central part of Pretoria and covers 76 hectares – an area of pristine natural beauty. There are more than 20 thousand species of plants, labeled and grouped according to the region of origin. Diversity and excellent systematization are of particular interest to visitors who are passionate about botany.

You can see a lot of flowering African plants, 50% of the country's tree species. It is no accident that the garden is called a "botanical tapestry", where you can see different biomes as if separate strokes: savanna, forest, fynbos, individual plants of other biomes. The alley of wisteria trees, cycads, succulents, alpine vegetation is impressive. Green lawns and spreading shade trees in summer, as well as extensive collections of aloes that bloom in winter, are just some of the seasonal features that attract visitors to the garden.

Discover a collection of medicinal plants and the basics of herbal treatment in the Ndebele Medicinal Garden. Learn about African gardening and get practical tips on saving water, which is always relevant in different parts of the continent.

Relax with a picnic basket and enjoy the beautiful nature. Take a walk through the natural meadow and make sure to visit the waterfall in the cool, shady woodland part of the garden.

Various capital development projects have been completed in the garden over the past two decades, including the creation of a new Visitor Center with a gift shop and themed books and Environmental Education Center.

There are several 4 and 5-star hotels near the garden area: the beautiful green neighborhood is a bonus to the accommodation options.

The garden is open daily, 365 days a year, from 08:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
