It's amazing how diverse China is. On the one hand, there is progress, skyscrapers, the technology that the rest of the world has never heard of. On the other hand – pristine nature, peace and tranquillity, dense forests, and steep mountains. The Chinese respect nature a lot, especially if there is a sanctuary hidden behind trees somewhere.
From time to time the inhabitants and tourists of Chengdu travel to Mount Emei, an incredibly beautiful place and Buddhist sanctuary. At the top of the mountain, there is a sacred monastery, which is about two thousand years old. Scientists have determined that the monastery was built somewhere in the 1st century A.D. However, it does not even look 200 years old.
The mountain is much older than the monastery itself. According to the most conservative estimates, it is about 800 million years old. There used to be a sea on this territory. Gradually, underwater volcanoes were ejecting magma, it froze, and in the end, it formed the beautiful Mount Emei. Its highest point is 3099 meters.
Do you want to test yourself and climb to the top? It is quite possible, climbing will take about 2-3 days. It's a long way, but you won't find such a track anywhere else in the world. During climbing, you will go through winter, spring, summer, and autumn. The climate varies from subtropical to subarctic. Besides, it will be the most picturesque ascent in your life.
Flora and fauna are so diverse that you will be surprised at every bird and flower. But once you turn around and look down at the city, the mountains, and the forests below, the view will take your breath away with delight. You can also get to the top by car, but the hiking route is more interesting.
You will see a Buddhist monastery, which was probably built by Buddhist monks. There used to be a temple on every peak of the mountain: the monks did a good job and built 170 temples. Today there are only 29 left. The largest and most beautiful temple is the Baoguo temple – the gateway to the mountains.
When you climb to the top and see magnificent temples, you really start to believe in miracles.
