If Shanghai and its startling architecture have impressed you, try imagining what this astonishing city will look like in the future. Although, you don`t have to imagine! See it all with your own eyes by visiting the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center!

The gallery is located in the heart of the city, on People’s Square. Its exposition is devoted to the history of the development of local architecture and the particulars of urban development here. The five floors of the exhibition center will guide you through the past, present, and future of Shanghai that will spread out before you.

Its first floor focuses on everybody’s favorite attraction, the Bund waterfront promenade with its splendid view of the Pudong skyscrapers. There are images from various years, starting with the end of the 19th century. You can see how much the view of both banks of Huangpu was changing and how fast Shanghai was growing.

Moving onto the second floor, you dive into the history of Shanghai and its architecture. While comparing the photos of past and contemporary views of the districts, you can test your ability to pay attention to details and count the differences, because the contrast between the pictures is significant.

The third floor is occupied by a huge and detailed scale model of the city of Shanghai, the crown jewel of the exhibition center. It is peculiar that it isn’t a modern depiction of the city, but its bright future. Close to the already familiar streets and buildings rise the new wonders of Shanghai architecture that will soon transform the business hub of China even more.

To see the city from the bird’s eye view, you can not only lean over the scale model but also tune in to the video shown that makes the viewer fly in the sky over Shanghai.

The fourth floor is devoted to local transport and various types of municipal services, things that most tourists rarely pay attention to.

The top floor hosts temporary exhibitions that are no less interesting than the permanent ones.
