The city of Nanjing has a lot of popular tourist objects, some of which even locals consider the most important and mandatory to visit.
At all times poets dedicated their poems to that place, painters depicted it on their canvases. The place was a silent witness of the prosperity of the Great Empire. Today it is the best route for getting acquainted with the most significant historical and cultural monuments. It is the Qinhuai River which is one of the Yangze tributaries. The Qinhuai is called a «Life and Blood» of the city. Its length is more than 100 km. The river is divided into two parts: internal and external. The main attractions of Nanjing stand on the river banks.
Traveling by one of the colorful boats along the interior part of the river and listening to the Chinese traditional music, you may see one of the world-famous temples – Fuzimiao which was built in honor of the great philosopher Confucius. You can also see the biggest gate of the country – «Gate of China” – which was constructed more than 600 years ago. The gate impresses not only with its size but also by the fact that it has been well-preserved. You can also see the ancient gardens of Zhan which were laid during the Ming dynasty.
A walk along the exterior part of the river which flows between two castles is also interesting. This part of the river offers a splendid view over the city stone wall of the 14th century and the modern TV tower. Besides, there are tens of small and cozy cafés on both banks of the interior and exterior parts of the river. There you can eat the famous muffins baozi or curd cakes with bean filling.
