According to local legend, the military general Fei Yi who served during the Three Kingdoms became immortal and flew a yellow crane. Each time he flew over the «Snake Mountain», he descended to the ground to gain strength and energy before the next flight. Although it is unknown whether the legendary general was actually immortal and whether such a huge yellow crane existed, today there is a beautiful tower at this very place, in the center of the «Snake Mountain». It was built and named after the yellow crane. A statue of Fei Yi was also erected there.

The traditional Chinese tower was built in the city of Wuhan in 1981. Previously, there were different towers in that place as evidenced by numerous written sources. For the first time, it became known thanks to geographical maps and records of the Tang dynasty which mention the construction of a fort and a Yellow Crane Tower on this territory in 223. According to written documents of the Ming and Qin dynasties, during this time the tower was destroyed 12 times and repeatedly burned by strong fires. However, each time, like the mysterious Phoenix, it was reborn from the ashes and became even more beautiful and majestic.

The modern Yellow Crane Tower is more than 50 meters high. It covers an area of more than 3,200 square meters. It is considered to be one of the four great towers of China. It is the main attraction and business card of the city. The famous tower daily attracts hundreds of travelers from all over the world. For instance, it was visited by the British prime minister Theresa May in 2018.

Despite its ancient appearance, the tower was made of modern materials. So inside you can use an elevator to get to the upper observation deck which offers a fantastic view of the Yangtze River.
