The futuristic Oriental Pearl TV Tower which is 468 meters high, became one of the main symbols of Shanghai right after it was finished in 1994. At the time of its construction, it was the tallest tower not only in China but also in Asia. Only the CN Tower in Toronto and the Ostankino Tower in Moscow were taller than the Oriental Pearl Tower. However, at the beginning of the new millennium, they were all surpassed by the Tokyo Skytree in Tokyo and the Canton Tower in Guangzhou.

Nevertheless, the Oriental Pearl Tower remains one of the most beautiful and recognizable constructions in China. It is at the top of the list of the main attractions of Shanghai. The tower, alongside other great world skyscrapers, stands out with its unusual shape and attracts the attention of people like a precious jewel.

The Shanghai TV Tower is decorated with tens of glowing spheres of different sizes. Indeed, they all look like pearls dangling from the very sky like pendants. However, the spheres, as it was supposed by the author of the project, should remind of gems that flow down from the sky to the jade platter at the basis of the tower. Anyway, the appearance of the Oriental Pearl Tower catches the imagination.

Its biggest spheres of Space City and Space Module especially stand out from afar. The lower one – the Space City sphere – is 50 meters in diameter. The higher one – the Space Module sphere – is less than the first at only 5 meters. The last houses one of the most impressive and luxurious restaurants in the city. Its feature is the spinning platform which gives its guests the opportunity to eat delicious food while enjoying the fascinating views of the Bund and the district of Pudong. A bit higher, there is a bar with a dance floor and tens of rooms with karaoke. So, the place is ideal for parties at the heart of the city! If you do not want to eat or have fun, but you still would like to visit the Oriental Pearl Tower, then you may simply go up to the viewing platform.
