The Dudhadhari Temple in Raipur has already seen four centuries of its history. Its unusual architectural look designed by the architects of the past is no less surprising than hundreds of years ago. Built in 1610, this ancient complex is highly respected by the locals. It is devoted to Rama, the Hindu god.

The well-cared, neat and picturesque complex can surprise one with color contrasts: the light-colored exteriors are complemented with bright interior decorations, full of vivid colors of ornaments and statues. The unique architecture of the complex shows several things to its visitors. The most interesting, if you are an adventurer-type of a person, may be the intricate carving with numerous details and plots. Inside the main temple, there are masterfully made and painted statues and wall paintings. Outside the main temple, there are several smaller structures worth examining.

The temple in the heart of the city launches you into a journey through time. In today’s structure of the temple, you can notice a mix of diverse architectural styles that predominated in the city development within centuries. Architecture tells you a lot about the past of the region, and the life of the rural monastery right in the center of Raipur.

The locals insist that the unusually looking building, in addition to this all, possesses magical powers. You might be able to feel a certain atmosphere of amiability and openness that fills the place. Both young and senior citizens of Raipur pay special respect to Dudhadhari.

Those who travel across India often say that if you have been to Raipur that means you have seen a good part of the country. Meaning, that you will have no difficulty to assess the artistic significance of the beautiful temple. The visual experience is sometimes combined with a sound one: here, you can meet bands of sadhu (religious ascetics) playing on traditional music instruments.

The temple is located in the southern part of the city, close to the Burha Talab lake, also called Vivekananda. To pay a visit to Dudhadhari, it is worth having a free 1-2 hour slot in your itinerary of Raipur. There are parking lots close to the complex.
