An-Nur Great Mosque is often called the Taj Mahal in Pekanbaru. The features of Malay, Indian, Arab and Turkish religious architecture are harmoniously combined here. Such a combination led to a unique result – a recognizable and impressive image.

The principal building is a symmetrical complex of structures 50х50 m. The pool in front of the mosque gives it a specific volume look and makes the complex similar to the Taj Mahal.

The mosque was built in 1968. The current appearance of the building is a result of several reconstructions. In 2000, it was significantly renovated, and the area of the complex increased three times – from 4 to 12,6 hectares.

The three-story building can accommodate up to 4500 people simultaneously. However, the interior space is actually less than it seems from the outside.

The upper floor of the mosque is created for prayers, and the lower part includes conference halls, offices, and a library. For visitors’ convenience, there are escalators inside the building. There are also services for kids: a playground, a kindergarten and educational classrooms. Before, the mosque was part of the university campus. The educational status has been partly preserved today. Besides, modern conveniences were added: for example, free Wi-Fi for visitors.

Inside the building, there are air conditioners that make a visit especially pleasant on hot days.
The bright colors of the complex fascinate during the day. At night, you can see new shades of this architectural beauty. Five domes and four minarets in the evening illumination are reflected in the water surface of the pool.

An-Nur Mosque is one of the popular holiday destinations in Pekanbaru, especially during Ramadan. There are many different food stalls and shops nearby: for a quick meal or to purchase necessary goods. Parking is located next to the mosque. Entrance for women – in closed clothes with a covered head. Of course, don't forget to take off your shoes when entering.
