No doubt the incredibly beautiful Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple can be considered the most unusual and most attractive attraction of the city of Johor Bahru. Its appearance is deceiving: seemingly small and rather traditional, it impresses with its interiors, which have no analogs in the whole of Malaysia.
The first temple appeared on this site about a century ago, in 1922. Small, cozy, ordinary, it attracted a lot of believers.
Much later, at the beginning of the 21st century, one of the main temple servants visited Bangkok. Going in an auto rickshaw past one of the local temples, he noticed an unusual glow. When he came closer, he saw that a glass painting on one of the walls of the building was shining like a diamond. He was so impressed by this beauty that he decided to imitate it in his city. The guru suggested that the temple, which will be fully decorated with shining glass paintings, will attract not only locals but also visitors from all over the world. And he was right.
The restoration and almost complete alteration of the interiors of the Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Temple began in 2008. A year later, the temple opened its doors to guests who were amazed by what they saw.
Light penetrated through the windows and reflected from hundreds of thousands of glass and mirror fragments that made up the entire interior of the temple. In total, more than 300,000 pieces of red, blue, yellow, green, purple and white glass were used to create such an unusual beauty.
When guests enter the temple, they have a fabulous feeling that they are not inside the building but in some magical jewelry box, where everything is colorful, shimmering and shining.
Besides, the interior of the temple is decorated with high snow-white and gold statues depicting various periods of human life from birth to death. As well as bright frescoes illustrating the life of the gods.
