There is an amazing place in the city of Johor Bahru – the Royal Palace. It is one-of-a-kind because of its unique combination: it is both a royal palace with the residence of the ruling family and a museum at the same time.
This palace is known for its magnificent architecture. Located in the large Zachariah Botanical Garden, it attracts the attention of all guests of the city and is its hallmark.
This complex was built in 1866 by local craftsmen but under the strict supe Eurovision of pean architects, who were specially invited Johor Bahru to build a new royal residence. First, the main building appeared: a large house with columns and a blue roof. Then a few smaller ones were added. So, the garden got a palace complex that was completely different from other such buildings in the cities of Malaysia. The European influence on the architectural appearance was very strong.
Sultan Abu Bakar ordered all the furniture for his new residence from the famous masters of England. They made it according to the wishes of the reigning person and the size of the rooms for the furniture.
Today, this large and luxurious complex houses the city's main museum. One of its parts called Dewan displays a collection of gifts that were presented to the ruling families at different times. There are medals, swords, and jewelry. Personal belongings of the rulers and their photos are also displayed here.
The hunting hall, as the name implies, is completely dedicated to hunting. This part of the museum-houses trophies, weapons, stuffed animals.
A rich collection of coins is displayed on the ground floor of the main building. And on the second floor, tourists can visit the royal throne room with two thrones, the chamber of the royal council, the dining room and bedrooms of the kings.
