Most of Asia follows Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and other similar religions. Malaysia is an Islamic country. And at first, this will jump out at you: surprising and intriguing. The Malay women of unusual beauty, with full lips, narrow eyes, all in neatly pinned multi-colored hijabs. And what about the mosques? It is considered a genuine art — here the real abodes of Allah are located. One of the most significant in terms of size and beauty is the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque.
The blue dome of Asia’s largest mosque floats over Shah Alam, attracting crowds of tourists and worshipers. The mosque is active, and in order not to embarrass the believers, all women need to wear a hijab and cover their heads and legs. Don’t miss such an extraordinary opportunity to get closer to Islamic culture in the heart of Asia.
The mosque is impressive. Even though it is in Shah Alam, it can be seen even from Kuala Lumpur in fine weather. The most remarkable and striking part of its exterior is the dome. It is huge and blue, 51.2 meters in diameter. The dome is majorly built of aluminum and blue glass. It includes an incredibly beautiful rosette with verses from the Koran at its very top. The second-most beautiful are its minarets, located in every four corners of the mosque.
Don’t hurry to go inside. Walk around the mosque, around the entire territory, and take a good look at everything. Note the twisted, oddly shaped door gratings, the Arabic lettering under the dome and the tops of the walls, and the stunning windows of blue stained glass installed not to let the excessively bright light in. Imagine the beautiful light inside the mosque! The blue glow, supplemented with special blue shade lanterns, creates an atmosphere of calmness, tranquility, and a certain mystery.
Go through a short dressing procedure and go inside. You won’t be allowed to visit the prayer hall, but you can look at it from the outside: the doors are always open. Fully carpeted, it is one of the largest halls in the world.
The mosque occupies more than one floor. Go upstairs, inspect everything there.
