Those who travel to South Korea often underestimate the small city of Seongnam. They think of it as the capital suburb where they can stay in less expensive hotels and visit lots of Seoul attractions without spending much time on the road. On the one hand, Seongnam, indeed, was the capital suburb till 1973. On the other hand, there are so many historical and modern attractions on its territory, that the city deserves special attention and is worth more than just being considered as an available place to stay.
Seongnam has such historical architectural monuments as the stone fortress Namhansanseong and the world-known Buddhist Bongguksa Temple of the Joseon dynasty. However, the major modern touristic object of the city is the famous «Seongnam Arts Center».
The unique art center is a sophisticated modern cultural space where true performance art gets its second breath: various theatrical performances, plays, operas and ballets, fantastic music and dance shows, exclusive performances by international artists starting with classical music concerts to rock festivals. In total, there are three theaters on the territory of the center. They differ in shape, size and purpose.
The spacious opera theater which can accommodate up to 2000 people is equipped with the newest sound and light systems and an automatic expanding stage for bigger projects.
The concert hall with 1000 seats was created especially for organizing classical music concerts. It is designed in a form of a piano. The hall can boast the best sound equipment in South Korea as well as the special lighting which creates an amazing atmosphere of relaxation. There you can feel even the most subtle vibrations of artists' voices and musical instruments, you can literally feel their breath touching you.
Finally, the third theater of the ensemble is a small platform for unusual modern performances of the experimental theater which is extremely popular in modern Korea.
It absolutely does not matter what musical or theatrical genre the guests of the famous cultural center are fans of, because its astonishing space and professional artists will not leave anyone indifferent.
