Cliffs covered with thick green plants, a winding road, and six islands in the Caribbean – this is what you see coming to Brimstone Hill Fortress. Even if you do not like military facilities, you definitely need to climb here. The citadel is beautiful. The views take your breath away. 

If you go there on foot, you have a shortness of breath. Brimstone Hill Fortress is located on an 800-foot height with steep slopes. A mountainous, winding road leads here, so it is better to take a taxi in the city of San Cristofor or go with a tourist group.

Now the Brimstone Hill fortress in all its beauty is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The best engineers and architects of the two countries worked a lot and yoke the forces of nature. They turned the impregnable rock to the legendary fortress. The Caribbean was a strategically important object in the XVII - XVIII centuries, that is why the fortress should be solid.

When you leave a taxi on the hill, you see the city of Saint Cristoforo and the beautiful Caribbean Sea below. That is a palette of green shades around, and the blue sky above. How can you think about the island protection or the fortress building when there is such beauty?

Before entering the fortress, watch a short film about its construction. You also can find out which penalties were applied to soldiers and African slaves building a fortress. On the lower floors, there are keeping exhibits related to construction. You go further and see the restored quarters. The soldiers protecting the fortress slept side by side on hammocks there. Come up, walk along the area where the weapon used to be, and the fire was coming. It is a cannon, located towards the sea. Once, people have fired a cannonball from this place. It destroyed one of the conquerors’ ships.
