La Ceiba Сarnival, also called Feria la Isidra, is a vibrant annual festival, the second largest after the famous carnival in Rio de Janeiro. It is held in La Ceiba at the end of May in honor of the Catholic Saint Isidore the worker, who is the patron saint of the city of La Ceiba. A public holiday is celebrated in his honor on May 15.
The whole city celebrates this long-awaited holiday for two weeks. The streets are filled with smiling people dressed in bright and unusual costumes. They dance, sing, play musical instruments, perform magic tricks and entertain themselves and guests of the carnival in every possible way.
In the first eight days of the holiday, small carnivals take place in different quarters of the city. They are completely different. There are religious and cultural carnivals, music and sports, commercial and even agricultural ones. Everyone wants to show their achievements and share their joy with others. Mini-carnivals compete with each other in the attractiveness of costumes, entertainment programs, and musical numbers. The best of them then participate in the brightest performance.
The main event of La Ceiba Carnival is the Grand Parade. It begins in the morning on one of the festive Saturdays and lasts until Sunday morning. The best platforms pass along the main street of the city. Winners of mini-carnivals perform. Also, they conduct competitions and excursions. It is impossible to miss such an event! Usually, the program of this day is so saturated that the guests do not have a minute to spare.
The next seven days are night parties. Performances of artists, musicians, actors are not so bright and noisy. They are calmer and more intimate but also interesting. Most often, they are held in clubs or on small outdoor areas.
La Ceiba Carnival is an important cultural event in the city and the country. They begin to prepare for it almost immediately after the end of the previous holiday. That is why it is so bright and original. Some guests even claim that it is more interesting than the carnival in Rio.
