One of the main sights of Mogilev not only attracts thousands of tourists to this city but also adorns one of the Belarussian banknotes. If you have never held 200 Belarusian rubles and seen this attraction, then it's time to do it. Go to this beautiful country and visit the famous Mogilev Regional Art Museum named after Pavel Maslenikov.

Although the art museum was opened in 1990, the museum building, which is an architectural monument in itself, appeared almost a century before that. Alexander Vasilyevich Drucker built this magnificent mix of the features of Art Nouveau, Neoclassicism, and Pseudo-Russian style in 1914 by order of the land-peasant bank. Later, it housed the newspaper publishing office "Revolyutsionnaya Stavka," the Ministry of Public Education, and the collections of the Mogilev State Historical Museum. In the 1920s, the party archive was placed there. Moreover, the armored safe kept in the building contained valuable items of jewelry: the cross of Princess Euphrosyne of Polotsk, the miter of Archbishop George, the silver mace of King Sigismund III, the silver and gold keys to the city, as well as rare coins discovered during the excavations of Pompeii. Besides, there were royal handwritten books and letters, as well as priceless paintings by Ivan Aivazovsky, Valentin Serov, and Ilya Repin.

All the valuables disappeared without a trace during the Great Patriotic War. When it ended, the building housed the editorial office of "Mogilevskaya Pravda" until the opening of the modern museum in 1990.

The collection of this museum was based on 83 works of fine and decorative arts of the Mogilev Regional Museum of Local Lore. Currently, its collections comprise about 7,000 copies: 5300 of which belong to the main fund, and about 1,500 are stored in its archives.
