The museum of cocoa and chocolate in Brussels is a «tasty» attraction of the capital which is loved by many tourists. It is ideal to visit this museum with the whole family.
At the beginning of 2019, the building of the museum was moved to a new place – the street of l’Etuve. So now it is located near Manneken Pis and the main square called Grand-Place. You can easily get there by public transport: just go to the Manneken-Pis station. Another way to get there is just walking in the city center. The main reference point is the crazy sweet smell of confectionery, which makes the museum so famous.
At the entrance, guests are greeted by a chocolate fountain. As it is known, Belgium is one of the world leaders in the chocolate industry, and its capital is famous for the fact that the famous praline candies with a nut filling were invented there.
The two most influential «chocolate» families of the country, Van Lierde and Van Belle, were involved in the creation of the museum. They decided to promote the Belgian brand together. So they created a space where one can get immersed into the history of the chocolate craft from the very beginning: learn how the ancient civilizations of Mayans and Aztecs grew cacao beans thousands of years ago, after they discovered their invigorating and healing properties, and then – how the magic beans from South America came to Europe.
You can watch video-presentations about chocolate production on special screens. For a convenient observation of the exhibitions, you can take an audio guide. The museum itself is small, so the entire excursion will take no more than half of an hour. You will also observe different chocolate figures and old exhibits connected to the «food of the gods».
The museum exposition occupies two floors. But the most interesting part of it is, of course, degustation and master-classes, when you can prepare chocolate bars on your own, learn the secrets of the technological process from the best chocolatiers and try a branded hot chocolate, as well as candies with different fillings.
The museum is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The entrance fee for adults is 9.5 EUR, children below 6 years old can come for free. Moreover, everyone can buy hand-made chocolate products there.
