Millions of years ago, instead of the rock town of Adršpach, there was a warm salty sea. Then the water moved to other lands leaving soft albeit rocks. Rains poured and the winds blew, so the mountains changed until they finally turned into large megaliths. They looked so much like human and animal figures that the creators of The Chronicles of Narnia movies chose this magical landscape as a set for the fairyland. These amazing rocks have quite unusual names, such as «Lovers» and «Widow». Moreover, this rock town has 2 waterfalls and several lakes.
Next to the natural beauties, there is the Adršpach Manor, worthy of a separate story. Previously there was a fortress, and in 1580 the Bogdanetsky family built a castle in the Renaissance style on this place. Unfortunately, both builders, father Adam and his son Jaroslav died tragically in 1620 in an explosion in the Jičín Castle, the cause of which has not yet been clarified. The castle later passed into the possession of Albrecht Wallenstein, and later to the Trček family as it was confiscated after the Battle of White Mountain. However, in 1634 both Adam Trček and Albrecht Wallenstein were killed in Cheb. In the 19th century, the manor was reconstructed by the new owners – the Naderna family. After the Second World War, the castle fell into decay, and after nationalization, the State Archives moved there. The story is quite sad – the time turns rocks into works of art, but destroys works of man, in this case – architecture. Although now there is a museum in this building, the general oppressive atmosphere, unfortunately, remains.
