Renaissance White tower (XVI C.) is the tallest building in Hradec Kralove, which has not yet "outgrown" modern high-rise buildings. If you go up to the level of the city roofs, you will always be lower than this white-stone beauty. From its "height" of 72 m. of its observation platform, you can not only see the city but also the tops of the Krkonoše
mountains.
First of all, it is a belfry, next to the city's Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. And there are bells on the belfry. On special occasions, the Augustine, the 3rd largest bell in the Czech Republic, weighing 8 tons, is played on the White tower. The voice of Augustine can be heard not only on religious holidays but, for example, during the New year celebrations.
An amazing detail that can not immediately be noticed on the tower is the unusual display of time on the clock face. The large hands show the hours, and the small hands show the minutes.
After a large-scale reconstruction, completed in 2015, the old tower has become more beautiful and, most importantly, has become more attractive and interesting for the citizens and guests of Hradec Kralove. There are interactive programs and thematic promotions.
Not long ago inside the stone White tower appeared its "crystal" sister. A transparent model made of heavy-duty glass, depicting the original tower in the proportion of 1:20, looks almost fabulous. For the best visual effect, the model combines matte and transparent elements: this creates a special play of light with internal and external illumination. In General, the model is made of 500 glass parts and weighs about 1000 kg.
