Jirásek's Gardens are a green triangle in the center of Hradec Králové, formed by the confluence of the Elbe and Orlica rivers. There are many rare trees, a music pavilion, the remains of fortifications, an unusual old wooden church, and cheerful flowerbeds. This place is one of the best places to stay in the city. The modern name of the gardens was given in honor of the Czech writer Alois Jirásek. This novelist and playwright studied for several years at the Hradec gymnasium.

The former officer's park is located near the historical squares of the city. So walking among the stone streets of the city can be combined with relaxing in the shade and greenery. The gardens appeared in the middle of the 19th century on the territory that was previously surrounded by a fortress. However, later the walls of the fortress were decided to be removed, and in 1896 the gardens were opened to citizens. First, there was a vegetable garden, then a rose garden. And today there are Alpine slides. Jirásek's Gardens are a harmonious combination of a spacious park in the English style and a systematic French park.

The greenery of Jirásek's Gardens hides a wooden Church of the 17th century, brought to Hradec from Slovakia. This temple is a real traveler! The Church of St. Nicholas appeared in 1605 in the village of Khabura. In the middle of the 18th century, it was sold to Malaya Polana. Later, this ancient log church was bought by the city of Hradec Králové. Today, the building belongs to the city but serves the Orthodox Church.

In addition to floral and architectural details, the gardens are decorated with bronze sculptures of lovers. The sculptures represent the confluence of the Elbe and Orlica rivers. This is the work of the sculptor Josef Škoda. During the summer months, the shady gardens host classical music concerts, food festivals, sports events, and various city festivals. There are also architectural traces of former eras. For example, a reminder of the times when Hradec was a fortress, a 2-meter-high tunnel leading to the rose garden.
