Telč, a city with a unique fairy-tale atmosphere, has been included in the UNESCO world heritage List since 1992. Walking through the historical center, you can easily go back several centuries ago, when horse-drawn carriages passed through the narrow streets.

The most valuable urban object in Telč is the ancient Zachariáš Square from Hradec, one of the most beautiful in the Czech Republic. The square, named after a Czech nobleman and humanist, is framed by a unique complex of Gothic and Renaissance mansions with arcades, as well as Gables in the Renaissance, Baroque and classicist styles. There is an Italian style in this harmonious image. But at the same time, there is an atmosphere of the comfort of a small Czech city.

The city hall is one of the few buildings on the square designed by an Italian architect. The facade of the city hall is the embodiment of a true Renaissance and its perfect lines. Two elegant fountains complete the ensemble of city houses on the square. Mariana column, made in 1720, in the center of the square is evidence that the city recovered after the Thirty Years' War, and that finances were found for further construction work.

Telč castle, a jewel of Renaissance architecture, rises above the western part of the square. Tour routes lead through the executive halls: rooms with coffered ceilings and original decor. The castle also houses the richly decorated chapel of All Saints, the last resting place of Zachariáš of Hradec and his wife Katherine of Waldstein. Walking around the square and the castle, you should also see the territory of the former Jesuit College with the Church of Christ and the Church of St. James, built in the 14th century. Fans of views from above will appreciate the opportunity to climb the tower of the Church of St. James. It offers an unforgettable view of the historical center of the city.

The spacious and open square today does not give the impression that Telč was once protected by medieval fortifications. The remains of late Gothic walls with Large and Small gates are located on the south-eastern edge of the city.
