No matter how much you are attracted to the unique museums and galleries of the Finnish capital, you should not refuse to spend at least a couple of hours walking through the shady alleys of a picturesque park. Especially when it comes to the popular Jean Sibelius Park.

The cozy green park was laid out in one of the most prestigious areas of Helsinki in 1945. The opening was timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the greatest Finnish composer, a bright representative of the Golden Age of Finnish Art, Jean Sibelius, who spent his youth in the vicinity of the city. Hence the name of the park.

The Sibelius Park was an oasis of peace for only a short while. Equipped with modern playgrounds and comfortable benches, it has become a favorite leisure area for locals and tourists. But the real popularity boom happened in 1967 after the grand opening of an unusual monument in honor of Jean Sibelius. Since that day, the park has never been empty. People are coming here from all over the world to see the monument, which has become one of the symbols of Helsinki and one of the most visited attractions.

The famous Sibelius Monument was opened 10 years after the death of the composer. The talented Finnish sculptor Eila Hiltunen had spent several years working on her masterpiece before the unique sculptural ensemble came out. The monument consists of several hundred stainless steel pipes connected in a specific order. If you stand close to the monument, it all seems chaotic. But if you step back, you will see the precision and accuracy of the entire structure, which looks like an organ. All the pipes are hollow, and the slightest wind makes them emit different sounds, similar to the melodies by Jean Sibelius. Therefore, the original monument is nicknamed "singing", and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists.
