In today's world, it is becoming increasingly difficult to surprise the spoiled public. Good old museums with exhibits behind the glass seem gray and dim. Interactive exhibitions and performances are not popular among lovers of classical art. How can the founders of museums and galleries find a sweet spot in the middle? And where do modern travelers go to get real pleasure from exploring the world of beauty?
The founders of the Vapriikki Museum Center in Tampere, Finland, managed to find answers to these questions. In 1996, they established a museum complex in the former premises of the famous Tampella factory. Hence the name of the center, which means "factory". Once, the spacious halls there were occupied by huge units that produced rifles, cannons, mortars, or even locomotives. Today, 4 floors with a total area of 14 thousand square meters house 10 museums. Every year they are visited by tens of thousands of tourists. In 2017, the museum center got the honorary title "Museum of the Century".
The Vapriikki Museum amazes its guests from the very first minutes. Already in the lobby, they are greeted by stunning vintage vehicles: from buses and bicycles to hang gliders and airplanes. Unlike other museums, Vapriikki allows visitors not only to see but also to touch all the exhibits. For example, sit on a fancy bicycle or touch a yoke. The youngest travelers will love it!
As a rule, women prefer to admire the giant amethysts in the Mineral Museum, and their companions love to observe the winning cups and medals of the legends of one of the manliest sports in the Hockey Museum. The collections of the Postal Museum appeal to every visitor regardless of their sex. It comprises unusual postcards from all over the world. Just imagine a postcard made of spices or buttons.
Take a look at the marvelous Natural History Museum. Find out the wingspan of such birds of prey as kites or hawks. Try to guess which animal this skin and this ancient skeleton belonged to. And do not forget to visit one of the various temporary exhibitions of talented contemporary artists regularly held by the museum.
