It would be an unforgivable mistake to leave Tampere without visiting the Sarkanniemi (Särkänniemi) amusement park. After all, it is considered the most popular leisure area among citizens and the main rival of the best park in Finland, the Linnanmaki Amusement Park, situated in the capital.
Founded in 1975, the amusement park with an area of over 50 thousand square meters combines picturesque lake landscapes and modern amusement rides. Thirty-five fantastic rides for adults and children run from mid-spring to fall: ranging from the "Ipanaario" toddler area, the fun "Piggy Train" and "Mushroom Race", to the giant "Tornado" coaster with an underground tunnel and loops. Not everyone dares to ride at a speed of 75 kilometers per hour in an open car, tossed up by gusts of wind all the time.
But even such an exciting journey, full of adrenaline, cannot compare with water rides in the hot summer. When the scorching sun seems to melt the earth, there is nothing better than taking a log ride down a waterfall or overcoming river rapids in a huge "cheesecake". And then take a walk around the children's zoo. Ride a pony, pet an alpaca and a rabbit, and hold guinea pigs in your hands. Even though the zoo is small, it is home to more than 30 species of tender and friendly animals.
The park is also open in the cold season, as there is a planetarium, an aquarium, and a museum on its territory. Even adults, not to mention the little guests, are happy to make a "real" flight into space, visiting the planets of the entire Solar System, and look into the "black holes", the most distant corners of our Universe.
You can get acquainted with the inhabitants of the sea, get into a tropical storm with a stunning thunderstorm imitation inside the Aquarium. It is home to more than 200 species of fish from all over the world. And don't forget to visit the Sara Hilden Art Museum, which features original works of contemporary art by Finnish and foreign masters.
