Even if you did not study ancient Greek mythology, you still know who Zeus is and where he live with his family. The famous mountain of Olympus is kept in memory with all its powerfulness and unique history, which is directly connected with the ancient Deity.
According to the legend, Olympus is home to gods, where ruled Zeus and his spouse Hera. The great Greek figures, such as Athena, Hermes, Dionysus, Apollo, Artemis, and Aphrodite, walked through the gorgeous gardens, ate ragweed, and from time to time got down to Earth to spend some time among people.
Is it correct to call Olympus a mountain? Many people consider that the right name for it – a mountain range because Olympus has not just one, but 40 peaks. The highest of them is Mitikas, which rises above the ground by 2917 meters. On the second place in height is Skala (2866), then - Stephanie (2905 meters) and Scolio (2912 meters).
Olympus is a National Greek park. There you can see about 1700 plants, impressing by their aesthetics. To get to that park you can at a height of 600 meters. On the way, you will be accompanied by different kinds of Greek fauna: mountain goats, foxes, deer, wolves, and lynxes. But be very attentive – on the mountain, there are also rare species of snakes and scorpions. For its natural qualities, UNESCO rewarded Olympus with the status of the national reserve of world significance.
At the beginning of time, ordinary people could not come to Olympus. The divine home was guarded by the Goddesses of the year time – Oras – the daughters of Zeus and Themis. They opened the gates in the sky. Now all the people can climb on the top of the mountain range, even if they do not have climbing equipment and training. The excursion is called “Rising to Olympus”. Tourists are impressed by all the things: landscapes, air, incredible atmosphere.
