The unusual museum was open in 1953 in the building of the Middle-Aged monastery. The idea to name it in honor of Leonardo da Vinci belongs to the mayor of Milan because there is the main collection of inventions and works, created by the projects and sketches of an Italian genius.

Museum of Science and Technology impress by its size – on the territory of 50000 square meters are located more than 16000 exhibits.
The large territory of the museum is divided into 7 thematic blocks, such as transport, energy, materials, communication devices, new scientific fields, art, and science for children.
The transport block shows us different means of transportation: from sailing ships of original size and steam engines to modern models of Italian military airplanes. There, anyone can see the reconstructed railway station of the 19th century or get to the real submarine. The materials’ section tells about the ways of mining and production of different types of raw stuff. Moreover, there is the first steelmaking furnace in the world.
The collection of communication devices is also worth attention. There you can see the ancient astronomical items, a telescope and the globe of the 17th century!
In the space of the sound, you can easily trace the evolution of the telecommunication, because there you can see the old telegraphs and modern telephones. And visiting the block of energy you learn the way of building the thermal power plants made two centuries ago.
