Even in such a fabulous place as the Latvian coastal town of Jurmala, surrounded by the warm waves of the bay and century-old pine trees, there is a corner of nature nicknamed Eden by locals. Kemeri National Park, which occupies a large part of Jurmala's surroundings, is the most leisure area of the townspeople. It was officially founded in 1997, although its long history began in the 19th century.

According to a local legend, at that time, a forester Kemera lived in the area of the present-day park. Appreciating the healing properties of local springs, the ambitious young man built a hotel, which later became the first thermal resort. Despite the lack of service and oak troughs instead of baths, the primitive resort was popular among locals and later tourists.

The resort of Kemeri later became a spa retreat with a park. At the beginning of the 20th century, its fame spread far beyond the borders of Latvia. Celebrities started to come to the famous retreat from all over the world. There was even a chess tournament with the participation of Russian grandmaster Alexander Alekhine.

A few years later, the fame of the resort subsided, while the park was still flourishing as before. Soon it was declared Kemeri National Park, and since then, it has annually attracted fans of popular ecotourism. It is home to rare plants, a quarter of which are included in the Red List. The birds living the Kemeri Park are a black stork, a crane, a sea eagle, and an owl, as well as rare species of woodpeckers. The forests are inhabited by elks, deer and wolves, roe deer, and wild boars. And the most numerous inhabitants of the national park are forest workaholics, tireless brothers beavers.

Even the youngest children can appreciate the pristine nature. The entire territory of the park is equipped with walking routes, bridges are thrown over reservoirs, and signs are installed everywhere.
