Golden dunes replace green pine groves against the background of the azure waters of the warm Gulf of Riga. You fall in love with the Latvian resort town of Jurmala even before your feet touch the ground of the main Majori Station. The acquaintance with the town begins from this station. It is where central Jomas Street, which leads travelers to the main attractions of Jurmala, starts. Even the name of the street seems to be saturated with the sea and sand, the cool breeze, the scorching rays of the southern sun. Translated from the Latvian language, it means "bay". Back in the early 19th century, this site was covered with forest. And it took only a few years to replace it with an urban layout, including the famous street. Nowadays, the old picturesque street has become one of the main tourist landmarks, attracting travelers from all over the world.

The famous Jomas Street starts from the building of Jurmala City Council, stretches along the picturesque town square to the intersection with Turaidas Street, and then to the popular Dzintari Park. Despite two severe fires that burned down most of the buildings, some wooden houses dating back to the 19th century have survived to this day. Today, they create a fantastic atmosphere of the past in the very center of the modern Latvian town.

The most striking example of the Latvian Art Nouveau style is the old Majori Hotel with a bright green roof and a slender high tower. Another historical monument is the so-called "people's house of Jurmala". In the 1880s, this house hosted concerts of invited symphony orchestras. Later it was turned into a cinema. In addition to historical buildings, there are many different shops, popular bars, and restaurants. But it is especially crowded and noisy at Jomas Street during the street festival: there are concerts of street musicians, a competition for the best sand sculptures, and, of course, a stunning firework in honor of the town's favorite street.
