The Park of Senses is a favourite place of citizens and guests of Valmiera. It intertwines plenty of different activities so that everyone can find something after their heart and enjoy time here.
The park is located almost in the city centre and occupies a fairly large area. It has been opened relatively recently but managed to catch the fancy of many Latvians. The whole area is divided into several zones: Barefoot Trail, Trail in the trees, Dalin’s Beach, jogging tracks, and a spa complex.
The trail in the trees is suitable for those who loved climbing trees in childhood and do not fear heights. The area of one and a half square kilometres at the height of 5-11 metres offers various rope obstacles. You can go over a suspension bridge, climb up moving steps, bungee jump and try to get out of rope nets; it is what this promenade offers. For all visitors, there is a route with offshoots and more complex elements. You can undoubtedly be proud of yourself if completing this challenge.
Dalin’s Beach is famous for its sports grounds for volleyball, badminton, basketball, and other games. What is unusual is that you can rent a raft with a capacity of 14 people and go along the river around the park. The raft has a small canopy and a motor, so there is no need to paddle. All 14 kilometres are for you to admire the Gauja River steep banks, sunbathe, relax and even have a picnic right aboard. The approximate rafting time is five hours.
The most specific place in the park is the Barefoot Trail. The park organizers have built various obstacles from natural materials, where participants walk barefoot. They used tree logs, grass, forest moss, pine cones, glass balls, stones, and even snow. The snow is brought here on purpose and lies on the trail all year round.
In sum, if you want to spend an active day in nature, you should go straight to the Park of Senses!
