According to an ancient Altai legend, seven beautiful daughters did not meet their father and beloved young people, future grooms and husbands, after the war. The Altai beauties cried for days and nights until grief turned them into stones – the ridges of Mount Korbu. Their bitter tears still run down from the rocky mountains in rapid stormy streams, flowing into the crystal-clear water of a delightful mountain lake. The story of one of the most majestic waterfalls on the eastern shore of Lake Teletskoye, the legendary Korbu, located just a few kilometers from the village of Artybash, began with this legend.
Visible even from the shore, this wonderful waterfall can be reached only by a fishing boat. Locals will not only happily take travelers to the waterfall but also tell dozens of fascinating stories related to the mysterious lake. The sounds of the famous Korbu waterfall, whose name means "branch", are heard long before the mighty stream of water rushing from a cliff about 13 meters high appears to the inquisitive travelers. Spreading out into thousands of small streams, the Korbu falls on Lake Teletskoye, throwing a mysterious veil above everything around.
The majestic look of the waterfall is often compared with the Tsar Bell in Moscow, created by nature itself, and the enchanting sounds of falling water – with the sounds of ancient organs and bell chimes.
You can admire the splendor of the Korbu at any time of the year. In summer, its landscapes shine with bright tropical colors, turning the usually gray rocks into a wonderful exotic jungle. In fall, the Korbu is surrounded by a real rave of color. This is the season of the most incredible photographs. In winter, the Altai beauty turns into a snow prince covered with blue ice plates, like diamonds, sparkling in the morning sun. But the Korbu waterfall is especially beautiful in spring when everything around comes to life. Spring fills it with meltwater and surrounds it with the blooming Siberian sakura, the pale pink Altai plant called "maralnik" (rhododendron ledebourii).
