The Kyzyl-Chin in Altai is also called Mars or the Rainbow Mountains. Simple landscapes with a minimal amount of vegetation, bizarre reddish-brown colors of mountain ranges look like Martian landscapes. Locals call this land "red gorge" and conditionally divide it into 3 locations "Mars-1", "Mars-2", and "Mars-3".

Formed 300 million years ago, the reddish-brown layer mainly consists of clay, sandstone, and limestone. In addition to red and brown shades, you can notice yellow, green, and even purple ones. The colors depend on the presence of certain metals in the rock. The landscape created by nature is so fantastic that it is almost impossible to stop contemplating or to understand that this is not an optical illusion. This land looks extraterrestrial precisely because of the colors. The work of wind and water is clearly visible on the multi-colored mountains: the slopes are almost vertical, furrows and ravines create a bizarre relief.

This place is loved by photographers, especially those who like to shoot landscapes. The color of Martian sceneries changes depending on the lighting, hence interesting optical effects. It is better to take photos in the first half of the day: there are sharp shadows later.
The distance between "Mars-1" and "Mars-2" is about 3 kilometers. One the way, tourists can observe breathtaking landscapes, as well as an abandoned mine adit. Previously, these lands were the site of the extraction of cinnabar, a mineral for mercury production. On the ridge of the mountain, there are stones with petroglyphs and a small cave. Once, it was home to a wolf with cubs, hence the name of the cave, "Wolf". There is also "Mars-3", but to get there, you need to cross the river. It is not recommended to do this without a guide.

From the very top of the mountain, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Akkaya and Taldudyurgun rivers. Nearby you can see the Eshtykel and Geyser lakes, as well as the Rainbow Mountains. Both lakes and mountains are considered places of power.
