Despite the numerous tourist attractions in the Altai Republic, it is difficult to imagine at least one traveler who has never visited or has never heard of the main Altai pearl, Lake Teletskoye, one of the deepest lakes in Russia. Just imagine a fabulous reservoir with a length of about 80 kilometers and a width of more than 5 kilometers, not to mention its depth, which in some places reaches 325 meters. This majestic, quiet lake reflects all the wild Altai nature's beauty like a mirror: impetuous waterfalls, steep mountain slopes descending to the shores, dozens of rivers and streams running into deep underwater mazes full of secrets.
Bluffy, with many bays and rocky shores, Lake Teletskoye still preserves its ancient legends and traditions, including the story of a huge bar of gold thrown into the water many centuries ago. Locals sincerely believe that gold still lies at the bottom of the lake and gives its waters an unusual shimmering glow. The fabulous beauty of the Altai lake, the amazing waterfalls of Korbu, Kishte and Chedor, the picturesque turquoise Stone Bay and the ancient Poklonnaya pine, whose branches touch the waters of Lake Teletskoye, and whose roots hold tightly the trunk that seems to float in the air, annually attract tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world. Some travelers set up tents and enjoy fantastic natural views, campfire songs, night swimming, others prefer to travel in a fishing boat, and still others come for a rich catch: the lake is home to not only small carp and perch but also delicious burbot and pike. Whatever brings travelers to these lands, everyone will be impressed, and perhaps will return once again to enjoy the cool waters and fresh fragrant air.
