The Kuban Cossack Choir is rightfully considered a national treasure and the pride of all residents of Southern Russia. It is a professional folk ensemble that has existed since 1811. Recognized as a cultural brand of the Kuban, it consists of the choir, orchestra, dance group, numbering almost 150 artists.
The choir's extensive repertoire, acquired over many years of its work, reflects the entire layers of history: the tragic events of the Civil War, Stalin's repressions, the decossackization, and other important pages of Russian history in the past 200 years. Their songs are also dedicated to spiritual themes: love for the country, for the mother, for the darling, faith in goodness and a better tomorrow.
The repertoire includes songs of the peoples of the USSR, such as Ukrainians, Cossacks, Russians, as well as songs based on poems by famous poets, marching songs, reflective ballads and thought songs, and, of course, funny Cossack songs with elements of play, competition, and funny remarks. One of the main songs performed by the choir "Oy, Kuban, ty nasha Rodina!" (Oh, you wonderful Motherland of Kuban) became the anthem of the region.
Since 1974, the composer Viktor Zakharchenko has become the artistic director of the folk ensemble. This person whose merits to the Kuban culture cannot be overemphasized gave the choir a fresh impetus. Today, he is the People's Artist of Russia and Ukraine and the recipient of numerous awards. The choir is also the winner of various international competitions and festivals. It successfully tours around the world, selling out concert halls in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The delighted audience says that the dancers performed miracles on stage, and the incredible energy coming from the artists energized everyone. Such a grandiose show leaves no one indifferent. This ensemble is a brilliant example of national moral courage, emotional openness, sincerity, kindness, naivete, and talent. Its deep and frank original songs addressed to the soul are felt by every listener, despite the linguistic divide.
