At the beginning of the 20th century, the famous Yekaterinodar businessman Adolf Rokkel made a deal with the widow of Colonel Golovaty to buy land that belonged to her and her late husband. For the sake of aesthetic pleasure and practical benefit, Rokkel decided to plant this land with trees. He constructed three wooden bridges to connect the island to the mainland, making it accessible to everyone. Rokkel ran a farm on the island, plowed the land, transported rich black soil. Over time, the park was filled with a huge farm with various fruit trees, shrubs, and flowers.

In 1959, the Executive Committee of Krasnodar Krai decided to transform the farm into the "Park of Culture and Recreation". The trees and bushes of the "Solnechny Ostrov" (Sunny Island) Park are about 100-500 years old. The oldest tree on the island, an ancient oak, grows near the river. In recent years, Sunny Island Park has become a place with the most developed infrastructure in the city. It has a network of attractions, a food area, a mini-zoo, a sports ground, a planetarium, and many other interesting gaieties.

During the holidays, Sunny Island Park hosts grand events, ranging from local celebrations to City Day. The park is considered the cultural center of Krasnodar, it is visited by more than 1.5 million people a year.

Despite the huge popularity of the park among citizens and tourists, you can always find a quiet nook and enjoy nature in silence. Sunny Island Park combines both noisy and fun areas and peaceful places in nature. Thanks to its vast territory of 35 hectares, the park easily accommodates many entertainment facilities.

In 2006, Sunny Island Park was expanded by the Safari Park, home to more than 200 species of animals, fish, and birds. Most of the pets are included in the Red List. Designed as a natural area, the zoo aims to create comfortable conditions for the animals. Besides, there are many cafes and restaurants serving local and European cuisine, so everyone can find a dish that will suit their taste.
