If you like the combination of history and modernity, then this place is for you. Ancient architecture and all the trends in the world of outstanding creativity are located here, in the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art.
Designed as a whole art city, it is a free space for creators and art connoisseurs. The fact that it houses many important facilities, ranging from galleries to educational centers, makes it the largest private center for contemporary art in Russia.
Winzavod contributes to supporting modern creators. Its employees have even created a special fund, which cooperates with leading Russian and foreign cultural organizations, interacts with the regional professional community. The fund also supports educational projects in the field of contemporary culture, for example, by constantly holding events, including scheduled courses or one-time master classes.
Initially, the historic territory of Winzavod was a large estate, which was expanded with a honey brewery in 1810. It passed from one owner to another, gradually growing. By the middle of the 19th century, there was an entire plant that occupied a significant part of the estate. In the 1870s-80s, it was bought by the joint-stock company "Moscow Bavaria", which began to produce the popular beer at that time.
In 1889, the Travnikovs merchants opened the Moscow plant of grape and dessert wines next to the brewery.
During the Soviet period, the company expanded the range of wines, producing up to 170 wines per year.
At the end of the 20th century, the plant was closed, and in 2007, its territory was occupied by the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art.
Representatives of the art community can even live at Winzavod. There are so-called "Open Studios", which are ready to provide the artist with a living room and a separate workshop. However, the resident program is not available for Russian citizens, it is a project only for foreign creators.
