The town of Myshkin is home to many original museums: from the only museum in the world dedicated to the mouse to the museum of ancient equipment from the Second World War. But such unique museums as the "Russian Valenki (felt boots)" or the Museum of Flax show visitors the process of creating the exhibits. The famous Myshkin Museum of Flax shares the building with the "Russian Valenki". The expositions of these two unusual museums perfectly complement each other: felting of original Russian winter shoes and weaving of linen cloth have been considered traditional crafts in Russia since ancient times. Besides, the products made by old masters are increasingly compared with works of art. The exhibits of the modern Museum of Flax are divided into two expositions. The first one tells visitors a fascinating story of the transformation of small flaxseed into traditional Russian apparel. Visitors can learn how to spin yarn using a spindle, see a real handloom in work, as well as get acquainted with all the stages of linen factory production, and view various looms dating back to the 20th-21st centuries. The unique exposition is complemented by the guides' stories about the life of Russian peasants, the ancient Russian customs and traditions associated with the flaxseed. The second part of the exhibition consists of a luxurious collection of linen dolls, the favorite toys of Russian grandmothers and great-grandmothers. The exposition shows visitors the process of creating antique toys at different times, and the purpose of each doll, for example, Butter Lady, angel doll, or amulet doll. Besides, the museum regularly hosts workshops on the creation of handmade linen dolls, which will certainly win the heart of every visitor.
