The fabulous resort town of Bled lies in the northwest of Slovenia, at the foot of the Julian Alps, on the shore of the picturesque glacial Lake Bled. It can be called one of the most valuable treasures of the state. The charming old Church of the Assumption of Mary, built on a small island in the middle of the wonderful lake, takes care of the townspeople's souls, and the stone warrior, built on a high rock in the early 11th century, guards the tranquility of the entire town.

One of the oldest castles in Slovenia, located at an altitude of 130 meters, was known in the early Middle Ages under the German name "Veldes". It was first mentioned as a generous gift from Holy Roman Emperor Henry II to a local bishop in 1004. Since then, only one observation tower has survived. Other buildings of the castle appeared during the Middle Ages. At the same time, the castle was enriched with massive defensive walls and tall observation towers, which still offer a fantastic view of Bled and its picturesque surroundings, marvelous Lake Bled with its island and the church, snow-capped mountain peaks, and river valleys covered with a colorful floral carpet.

Later, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Bled Castle was chosen by members of the first royal dynasty of Serbia and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, Karadordevic (Karađorđević), and then the first president of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito.

Today, Bled Castle houses a historical museum with a rich collection of ancient weapons, clothing and household items, as well as a small castle chapel dating from the 16th century. All the fortifications are located within two courtyards and are connected by numerous stair flights. On the upper floor, there are residential buildings, and the lower floor houses utility rooms. Moreover, Bled Castle is surrounded by a deep defensive moat. It can be crossed by a medieval drawbridge, which has preserved an almost pristine appearance.
