When you go even to a small bookstore, it's like an embarrassment of riches. You can spend hours searching for the right book, or get stuck on one that you didn't plan to take at all. It's the same in the library. And in the library of Birmingham, you can even settle! The Birmingham Library is the largest library in the United Kingdom and one of the largest cultural spaces in Europe.
Oh, the Library has something to show off! There is an unprecedented number of novels, detective stories, plays, poems! Works of almost all famous writers, poets, and playwrights! In addition to works of art, Birmingham has a huge collection of scientific literature. There are books and documentary archives of world significance: all sorts of collections of stamps, prints, maps, drawings, manuscripts, and much more. There are so many different books in the library that you may want to take a tent, a flashlight, and study around the clock!

This fantastic building also has modern newspapers, magazines, sound and video files.

The building is interesting not only from the inside but also from the outside. At first glance, you would never think that this three-level building with transparent walls and metal lace trim is a library. The Birmingham Library opened only recently, in 2013. It is no accident that it quickly became one of the most famous local attractions. The three levels of the library resemble lace boxes stacked on top of each other. Their surface is covered with a thin pattern of metal slats. In the evening, when the lights are turned on, the library looks magical.

The building was supposed to be the beginning of a global reconstruction of the city, a large-scale architectural reform of the city. According to the plan of the authorities, Birmingham should become a super-advanced metropolis. The building looks great, but the scale of the project is a little overdone. The problem is that it is very expensive to maintain such a building. For this reason, the library of Birmingham is only open forty hours a week. But there is no shortage of tourists. On the contrary, everyone wants to come back again and again.
