Spittal Nature Reserve

Bermuda, despite its terrible aura, is a true paradise with white beaches, emerald water, and hot sun. There is another attribute of heaven on earth - the Spittal Nature Reserve. The huge park is located in Smiths County and occupies a large territory - 64 acres! Both locals and tourists adore coming here. Spittal Nature Reserve is a Bermuda's most prestigious nature reserve.

Walking along the shady paths of the reserve, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean, because “Spittal” is located along the coastline.

A pond, one more, and then another one! This is the main attraction of this reserve. The pond is huge - 8 acres!

When you come to the reserve, take a deep breath. Here is an incredible aroma! The variety of colors is impressive: from wildflowers and daisies to the Jamaican beautiful pale apricot flowers. Along the paths crossing a park, there are olive trees, casuarinas, palm trees, and many other kinds with bright green juicy leaves. The abundance of plants, their aroma, the proximity of water creates an amazing feeling of complete freedom and tranquility. The spirits are rising in a second!

The reserve is one of the best places for bird-watching in Bermuda. You feel joy from their twittering! This is a true paradise for an ornithologist. Most of the birds you can see just here and in books.

There is also something else interesting. You need to go a little towards the shore. If you come forward, you find a Spanish rock. There is an inscription on it. According to a legend, it is a message of the Portuguese sailors, who were wrecked. However, the original stone with the inscription is no longer here. But a bronze copy is in its place. After the inscription in bronze was made, people were referring it to the royal family. It has the letters “RP” - Rex Portugaliae.
