Night at the Museum. No, that's not the name of the movie. This is something that can really happen in the Nanortalik Open-Air Museum.

Everyone is used to the fact that the museum is one building with many halls with collections about different periods of history. But what if the exhibits are too large to fit in one building? What if the buildings are exhibits? Then the museum is mainly located under the open sky as in the Nanortalik Museum.

The Museum occupies an entire area near the port. Almost all the buildings are exhibits. And most of them also have exhibition halls.

You learn the history of Nanortalik while walking between the houses. At least its architecture. All buildings in this area are designed in the colonial style.

You will have to leave this area and walk a little to find a more or less modern building. The museum is located at some distance to exclude new developments and keep the collection in its original form.

The museum's collection includes old huts, women's boats, kayak racks, and much more. The houses are considered to be of historical importance as they tell about the conditions in which people lived in the past centuries.

You can just walk between the bright houses, looking at their characteristic style features. Or you can climb on the roof or a special platform and look at the area from above.

All buildings are in use. Some of them have museum displays, while others have hostels, for example.

There are also a lot of interesting things inside the museum: household tools, leather and woolen clothing, things of people who lived there almost three hundred years ago. The museum's exhibits are often used in Christmas and Easter events.

The Nanortalik Museum is a very unusual but interesting place that is worth visiting before you go on the Tasermiut Fjord trip.
