People who love art but do not know the works of the outstanding artist Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera do not exist. Not just art lovers need to visit this museum at least once. The Blue House, named because of the color of the walls, was a home of one of the strongest and, at the same time, the most fragile women in the world. Now, this house is a museum of Frida Kahlo.
Parents of the artist bought this house in 1904. Frida was born in 1907. She spent her childhood there and painted her first self-portrait. Later, she married the artist Diego Rivera and invited him to live in the house. She was painting pictures till her last days, the year of 1954. A year later, people opened the museum, one of the most significant in the country.
Today, the museum has its initial look with the personal belongings of the legendary artist. These are tableware and statuettes of ceramics, souvenirs of wood, items from the period of pre-Columbian America. You can see photographs and books by Frida and Diego. Besides, there is an easel, canvases, and brushes which were used to create great masterpieces. Frida is famous for her self-portraits, many of them are shown in the museum. Some of them the artist adored herself - “Retrato de mi padre (Wilhem) Guillermo Kahlo”, “Viva la Vida” and “Frida y la cesárea”.
But the main feature in the house is not pictures or idols. Right on a table in one of the rooms is located a funeral urn in the shape of Frida’s face. It contains the ashes of the artist. So, the Frida Kahlo Museum is not just a place demonstrating her work and personal belongings, but a shrine.
