Usually, Morelia is a quiet and peaceful place. It is very nice to walk in the company of good friends or with your soulmate along the streets of the city. It is good to watch the beautiful colonial architecture or drink cool coconut water on the terrace of a lovely cozy restaurant. But every autumn, hundreds of celebrities and thousands of fans from all over the world come to this city. It is all about the International Film Festival in Morelia. Its visitors all come to the city bars, cafes, and restaurants. They discuss works of new talents and geniuses. Morella turns into a true setting for great films. And tourists have a chance to meet Quentin Tarantino or catch a Salmon Hayek kiss.
The Morelia International Film Festival is an annual world-class event. It can be compared with the Academy Awards in the US or the Cannes Film Festival in Europe. Its first opening took place in 2003. Initially, Mexican filmmakers were showing their documentary works. In 2018, to the best documentary, short, full-length, and foreign language film awards, the best-animated film was added. The festival had an idea to promote the young talented filmmakers of Mexico. But now it is known throughout the world. And the most respected representatives of the cinema world became the usual guests of Morelia. Among them are Robert Rodriguez, Guillermo del Toro, Javier Bardem, Jennifer Lawrence, and many other Hollywood stars. Besides, the festival was supported by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “AMPAS”. It means that Mexican Festival laureates can be nominated for an Oscar.
After the International Film Festival in Morelia, the city returns to its usual pace. All year, people can see the nominated films everywhere.
