Nature Reserves, Safari Parks, Zoo

Previously, the Franklin Mountains provided people with the necessary conditions for life for centuries. Today, they make it possible to realize other human needs - our need to spend free time in nature. In El Paso, everyone can explore this delightful place, located just 15 minutes from the city.

Franklin Mountains State Park offers great opportunities for hiking, cycling, and climbing at any time of the day. There you can play an entertaining tourist game "geocaching": hunting for any of the hundreds of caches hidden by the same people as you. The thirst for finding "treasures" will certainly cheer you up and lead you to the most beautiful places in the open air. Geocaching involves using GPS to find specific geographical coordinates with the location of a hidden cache with a surprise. The game is becoming more popular every year. And the tasks performed in the most charming places on the planet make it attractive to millions of people around the world. Caches range from very small to large: for example, the size of a lunch box. Many of them are camouflaged, but usually not buried in the ground. In them, there is often a notebook to leave your name, toys for children, objects for adults as well as everything that a traveler’s imagination is capable of.

Although the park is entirely within the city of El Paso, it is home to a powerful and diverse ecosystem of birds, reptiles, and small mammals.
If you are careful, you can catch a glimpse of deer, squirrels, coyotes, and possibly one of the elusive mountain lions. It is also an incredible place for bird-watching. More than 100 species visit it during seasonal migration or live there all year round: golden eagles, flycatchers, hummingbirds, and pyrrhuloxia - each of them can be tracked in Franklin Park.

To explore nature, you can visit about 40 square kilometers of highlands. You will have dozens of miles of trails at your disposal. Stay at one of the campsites or parks at one of the five ski spots, rent a group camp, and pre-book your spots. The reserve is waiting for you at any time of the year!
