San Miguel Church in Parana

One of the most famous and oldest religious buildings in Parana is Iglesia de San Miguel. The cathedral is sanctified in honor of St. Michael, the patron of Entre Ríos.

As it happens in Argentina, the cathedral combines features of different architectural styles. But the main one is neo-Gothic.

The history of the building began in 1822 when the priest Antolín Gil y Obligado offered to build a spacious temple. This idea was supported by the city authorities and inhabitants. The work was started the same year. 

The Norther Bell Tower was erected first. It was sanctified in 1836. Today, it is located behind the main altar in the center of the church. Inside the chapel, you can find the bowl with holy water.

The construction of the cathedral lasted for a long time. Its “curators” were changing, as well as the original project.

The church consists of three naves and two towers. It is located next to the main square. Today, we can admire this sacred construction, directed to the sky.

The building of a magnificent three-nave temple was almost completed in 1873. But later, two towers with ornaments were added to it. 

The cathedral has been serving the needs of its parishioners throughout its entire history. 

In addition to its basic functions, it is a very beautiful object of architecture.
