Each city has its sights he is proud of. But there is such a thing as city symbols. You can see them on postcards, and all tourists wish to see it. In Russia, it is Red Square, in Paris - Eiffel Tower, in London - Big Ben. In Santa Fe, it is the Ingeniero Marcial Candioti Bridge, better known as the Santa Fe Suspension Bridge.

Apart from its beautiful view, the bridge is known as a road connecting the west and east of the Setúbal lagoon. It seems that a huge lake appeared in these places with this bridge because residents and visitors to the city are used to it so much. But it has a long and sad history.

The construction of the bridge has failed three times. The first type was built in 1903 and looked like a wooden structure based on stilts. As soon as the construction was completed, the central dams did not withstand the water pressure. The bridge was destroyed.  Later, workers restored the structure, but it was also demolished by water.

The third attempt to build the bridge was made by the engineer Rogelio Sequeira. That time, it was a cement structure. But it was also destroyed.

Only in 1924, the city started the building of a new suspension bridge. We can see it today. The construction lasted 4 years. In 1928, there was a grand opening. For more than 50 years, its photos were on all the postcards of the city before another misfortune happened. It was severe flooding which lasted several months and destroyed the bridge.

20 years later, it was reconstructed. Happy citizens could again meet and hold city events on it.
