Inkallaqta Complex is one of the main sights of Bolivia. It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Inkallaqta is located close to Cochabamba. This place preserves the Incas spirit and keeps a lot of mysteries and secrets.
The complex of Inkallaqta preserves the entire city. Earlier, it was the military and political center of Kolasuy. That is why here you can see various protective and military constructions, as well as a large number of houses.
The building of the fortress and settlement for soldiers started in the middle of the 15th century. Large Inkallaqta city was the main base in battles with Guarani tribes. But, unfortunately, Incas could not resist the enemy. Guarani came to the city and burned the settlement down.
Inkallaqta was a very important and wealthy city. It can be proved by the largest covered building in the Western hemisphere erected here. It is the House of Meetings, Kalanka. The construction is huge. It is 25 meters wide and 78 meters long. The roof is supported by 24 large columns with a diameter of 2 meters and a height of 12 meters.
And that is not the only interesting building. Now, we can see the stone walls of an unusual sight. These walls are made in the shape of vertical stairs. Scientists consider it to be an observatory of the Incas who were studying the movement of celestial bodies.
Inkallaqta is open all year round. You can spend the whole day looking at the ancient ruins or scientists who are trying to reveal the secrets of ancient civilizations.
